Plump for the latter and you'll also get a useful USB input for the two-speaker stereo and electric front windows. A few hundred pounds more gets you the top spec Flair model which adds a more advanced infotainment system with smartphone integration with automatic lights and wipers air conditioning, and a height-adjustable driver's seat.

Although the citroen c3 key is a city vehicle at heart, it's not a one to be feared on the open roads also. The agile engine, powerful three-cylinder engine and light weight make it a highly capable motorway cruiser too. Its skinny tyres do create quite a bit of noise on the road, however and the road and wind noise is more noticeable at higher speeds.

Citroen has used clever materials to ensure that the C1 does not feel bare or stripped down. The basic Touch model might not have much, but the higher-end models don't feel like discount specials, and even the entry-level model gets things like a CD player that comes with DAB radio.

Citroen's seats are its most valuable assets. The front seats are comfortable enough for long drives while the rear seats are only suitable for children or adults for short trips. The boot, at 196 litres is smaller than a lot of its competitors but sufficient for plenty of shopping and a decent amount of luggage.

The safety features are good with six airbags included as standard, electronic stability control and hill start assist. You can also upgrade the reversing camera to the Active City Brake option on the highest-spec Flair models, which incorporates lane departure warning and traffic sign recognition as well.

Remote Lock

Remote locking lets you lock and unlock your car doors by remote. To program the remote to lock or unlock the car, press and hold both the LOCK button and the UNLOCK button simultaneously. Once the remote is programmed the button flashes LOCK. This signifies that it is now ready to lock/unlock.

The cold weather can cause the key holes to freeze. A small amount of WD40 spray into the hole and then closing the door shut should help free it up.
