Titration

After your evaluation, you will be informed that medication may be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person by video link, in person or by phone). Your physician will go over the various options for medications available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will help you the option of titrating your dose to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process may take several weeks, and involves adjusting your child's medication slowly until the right balance is reached. It's not uncommon to have to titrate two or three medicines before finding the one that is best for your child's ADHD symptoms. It is important that parents participate in the titration and be on the lookout for their child's behavior so they can inform the doctor whether the medication is working or causing adverse reactions.

If you do not decide to return to NHS treatment and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be issued with a Private adhd medication Titration prescription which you'll have to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in your consultation fee). You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication. This includes blood pressure and pulse readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

Once the assessment is completed and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is typically conducted through a zoom video call. However, in certain circumstances, it might be possible for an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again at an additional cost).

In this session, we'll discuss any treatment options we have and come up with a unique ADHD medication titration plan. This will include a review of your medication dose and an examination of any negative side effects you may be experiencing. These titrations cost PS150 for face-to-face sessions, and PS60 by video or phone consultation. Costs for medication are extra and are paid directly to the pharmacy.

The psychiatrist will also ask you about your family history and the impact your ADHD symptoms can have on your life, including any issues with relationships you may be facing or any other mental health issues you may be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to assess your family history in order to determine if you are at a greater risk of developing this disorder.

It is important that you are honest and truthful to the doctor during this assessment, as the information they gather will be used to determine whether your ADHD meets the diagnostic criteria. This is an important step because a wrong diagnosis could result in a prescription for medication that is not appropriate.

Or you can wait for two weeks before considering the implications of the diagnosis and the options available to you.

If you're not sure which one you prefer it is recommended that you talk with your GP before booking your private appointment as certain providers have different policies about whether they require the submission of a GP referral letter or not. Check if your GP accepts the Shared Care Agreement, which means that you will be referred to them when you leave the clinic for prescriptions for medication.

Medication

The medication process is an essential element of the process for many who are seeking an official ADHD diagnosis. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists can be notoriously long and GPs might be reluctant to refer their patients to specialist services.

One method to circumvent this is to ask your GP to refer you through Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). You can choose a service who offers a private assessment service and the titration adhd medication. This will cut down your waiting time by a significant amount and is more convenient if you're working and have a full schedule.

If you are referred, your clinician will evaluate your condition to determine if you need medication adjustment. You will need to complete forms that vary by doctor but the most frequent ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories going to childhood and adulthood. These forms will assist your doctor identify any conditions that could indicate that you shouldn't be taking ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are being titrated the medication will consist of a mixture of stimulants and nonstimulant medicines. They will be examined and monitored to determine the right combination for you. The titration for adhd process can be long and could require several additional appointments before you're able to stay on your dosage.

The frequency of your follow-up appointments will depend on the type and amount of medication you are taking. They could be scheduled monthly or quarterly. This will include your physician checking to see if you are on the right medication, recording any side effects you've experienced and making any adjustments needed to ensure that you remain in a safe dosage. You'll also be required to attend a regular health check that may include blood pressure, pulse and weight readings as well as an annual check-up.

Some people might be satisfied with their medication, and do not need to discuss their titration in more detail. However, for those who require further discussions regarding their titration and treatment plans, it's possible that they will be passed back to the same private clinic that conducted their initial assessment. If this occurs, the titration period adhd consultation will be included in their consultation fee, and they will receive their medication on an individual prescription (see Consultation fees above). This could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
