Then, if your vehicle is recent, it may have a transponder chip or smart key/fob, which requires programming to match the immobiliser device in the vehicle. A locksmith in the automotive sector can help.

Keyless Entry

Keyless entry lets you unlock and start your car without having insert a key into the lock. The system relies on radio signals that emanate from the vehicle, and a key fob that scans for the signals. If the key fob falls within the range of radio signals, it transmits a code back to unlock the door, and also disables the your vehicle's standard immobiliser which is located in the engine control module (ECU).

Certain systems also have a remote ignition feature that lets you start your car using a key fob, or a button on the dash panel. This feature is extremely useful when you need to get out and buy groceries, or if your keys are accidentally locked inside.

Convenience is the primary benefit. You can get into your car without having to fumble with your keys in the dark, which can be difficult when you're carrying lots of things. This system can be used to unlock the hatch and trunk that is ideal when you're carrying a lot of cargo.

If your keyless entry or push-button start isn't working it could be due to a problem with the key fob battery. If this is the reason, you can usually tell by looking for an icon on the back of the key fob which you can press. If this does not work, you could need to take your car to a professional locksmith or dealer to have the key fob programmed.

Immobiliser

The Immobiliser is an inbuilt anti-theft device that prevents you from beginning your car without the use of a key. It works by comparing the digital code on the key or key fob with the unique code in your vehicle's ECU. When these codes are in sync then the ECU activates the ignition and fuel system. If the codes do not match the fuel pump and ignition circuit will be blocked and your car won't start.

The Immobiliser is effective in preventing thieves from using hot wires or even starting your car however it's not 100% secure. Criminals with a strong will can beat it. It is important to take other precautions, such as keeping valuables hidden and not leaving them inside the car while you're away.

A faraday pouch is an additional security measure. It blocks the signal between the car's electronic system and the key fob, making it much more difficult for thieves and criminals to copy and intercept that signal. The newest suzuki swift car keys models also include a second security measure that requires the key to be placed near the ignition while turning it on.

Modern immobilisers are vulnerable to attack by criminals with advanced capabilities despite these precautions. In one study, Jaap Bokslag, a researcher from the University of Amsterdam, attempted to steal three popular vehicles and cracked the immobiliser within six minutes using known weaknesses.

Security System

Suzuki's are amongst the most popular vehicles on Australian roads and they come with an inbuilt immobiliser to stop them from being hot wired. If you use the key to start your vehicle, it has a transponder chip within it slightly smaller than the PS1 coin - that sends an individual code to the electronic control unit (ECU). If the ECU doesn't receive this code when you insert the key into the ignition barrel, the vehicle won't start.

After 2000, most new Suzukis will come with a factory key-lock mechanism with a built-in immobiliser. The key is equipped with a tiny transponder chip that is hidden under a plastic head. The chip has a sophisticated code that the car's ECU searches for when you insert the key into the ignition barrel. If the chip in the new key doesn't match with the one in the ECU and your car doesn't start. The issue can be a bit tricky to repair but our Auckland auto locksmiths know how to fix it quickly and inexpensively.

Keys

Most Suzukis are equipped with a key which has a microchip inside (transponder chip) which is smaller than the coin you carry in your pocket. When you insert your key into the ignition barrel, the ECU in your vehicle reads the code from this chip and if it doesn't match, it will not start. So, if you lose the only key and do not have a spare, you'll have to locate a specialist auto locksmith with the appropriate equipment to replace it.
