A key fob is a small device that sends an alert to the vehicle when it is required to start or lock. These devices are powered with batteries. Unfortunately, sometimes these batteries die or get damaged. Luckily, it's easy to replace these batteries.
There are a variety of reasons for why a key fob could not function. Some of these issues are easy to fix, however, others require the assistance of a specialist.
Battery
When our keyfob's lock button stopped working, we believed the battery was about to go out. However, the unlock button was working, so it wasn't the issue. Timpsons and Halfords said that the only method to replace a Berlingo keyfob's battery is to get a dealer to do it. This is because removing or re-inserting the battery in less than 30 seconds will cause the fob's memory to go away and you will be left with the key.
Press and hold the large plip button with all doors closed, and the ignition ON. Then, press the small deadlock button whilst still holding the large button. This will set the Plip Key to the default "lock" code.
Receiver module
A key fob is a tiny device that allows you to lock and unlock your car from the distance. It communicates with your vehicle's receiver module through a radio frequency signal. If your key fob isn't functioning, the issue could be a dead battery, damaged receiver module, or interference from other transmitters. It is possible to fix these issues by replacing the battery of your key fob or by changing the program of the key fob. The process is different for every model, so make sure to consult your owner's manual to learn how to complete this task.
The most common cause of the key fob not working is a dead battery for the coin. It is a simple problem to fix. All you need to do is replace the battery with a new one that is the same type and size. After you've done that, press the start, lock and unlock buttons again to test whether it works.
The sweat or moisture on the circuit board of your key fob can also lead to it not functioning properly. Moisture can create a short circuit that can damage the receiver module and make your key fob inoperable. Keep your key fob clear of water and store it in a location that is dry when not in use.
Other devices that operate at the same frequency might interfere with your key fob. These include cell phones as well as home security systems garage door openers, and home security systems. These devices could interfere with the signal of your Citroen key fob, which will result in it not locking or starting the car. You can test for this using a multimeter or a similar device.
You can get in touch with an expert locksmith if you are unable to repair it yourself. A professional locksmith can connect your key fob to your car with specialized equipment. This is much cheaper than buying a brand new set of keys from the dealer. However, it is recommended to consult a locksmith who is experienced in your brand of vehicle.
Interference
The key fob communicates with the vehicle using a specific frequency. If the fob is accidentally activated within range of another transmitter the fob will lose its signal and cease to function correctly. This can occur with cell phones, other key fobs or other devices that operate on the same frequency. Key fobs may be malfunctioning due to the fact that the battery is dying. If this is the situation it is possible to replace the key fob.
The receiver module is an important component of the keyfob. It must transmit the signal required to start and unlock your vehicle. This component must be replaced when it begins to fail by a citroen ds3 replacement key cost dealer or a skilled mechanic. A faulty receiver can also cause a key to cease to function. This isn't as frequent, however.
The battery may be dead if your apartment key fob is not working. These small batteries look like coins and can be easily purchased at general stores, home improvement stores and some auto parts shops. It's important to use the proper type of battery however. If the battery has the wrong voltage, it could harm the chip inside the key fob.
A key fob submerged within water could lose its signal. In this instance, you should remove the key fob as quickly as you can from the puddle. Then, wipe the circuit board down using a cotton swab that is submerged in electronic cleaner or isopropyl. This will keep the circuit boards clean and will prevent corrosion.
It's also possible that the key fob isn't properly programmed to the vehicle. If this is the case, you'll need to visit a local citroen c4 key dealership with your V5 registration and identity documents. A dealer can order a replacement fob and obtain the code to your vehicle's immobiliser. They'll also be able to program the replacement key fob and configure the immobiliser to accept it.
Deprogramming
Recently, the lock button on my Berlingo stopped working. It worked fine for a little while but then it stopped responding to my key fob. The unlock button worked however. I checked with Timpsons and Halfords, who both stated that you can only deprogram the key fob through going to a dealer, and that trying anything else WILL RESULT in DOOM.
I then disconnected the negative cable and waited about 20 minutes to ensure that all residual power was drained. I then tried to reprogramme my key fob. I first had to make sure that all doors were locked using the key, and then I needed to press and hold the large button for around 20 minutes. After pressing the large button I released it and pressed the small button to secure the door. The LED now flashes continuously.
I then put in the ignition key and turned it into accessory mode without turning off the engine. Then, I positioned the key in front of the receiver, and hit both the large plip and smaller plip buttons on the remote. The Plip is now working. This should resolve the issue if your remote doesn't respond to your key fob.
